The Rules (and Other Details)
1. There is a $25 non-refundable entry fee (pay via the link below), and you must be 18+ to enter. The fee is waived for contestants eating for a charity.
2. Your entry verifies that you have read and agree to the waiver (see below).
3. Each contestant will be assigned a staff member who will keep track of each hot dog eaten. Each hot dog will be served on a paper boat; the counting of empty paper boats will also track the number of hot dogs eaten.
4. Separating hot dog and bun is permitted, but both must be eaten and can be eaten in whatever order the contestant prefers.
5. Dunking buns in water is allowed, but only ONE five second dunk per bun.
6. Condiments are not required, but if you would like them, only mustard and ketchup are allowed. Condiments can only be applied AFTER the starting whistle.
7. Utensils are not allowed.
8. Only hot dogs completely consumed by the 10 minute mark will be counted. Half hot dogs do not count. Chipmunking at the 10 minute mark does not count. All hot dogs must be swallowed and in your stomach!
9. Do NOT touch the hot dogs at all prior to the starting whistle. Only AFTER the whistle can you pick up the hot dog to begin eating. Picking it up prior to the whistle will have you disqualified.
10. After the eating portion of the contest, contestants must stay in their spots for the following 10 minutes. Unfortunately, you will be disqualified if you throw up within those 10 minutes. But buckets will be on hand if you can't keep the vom down any longer.
11. Each hot dog consists of one all beef wiener (contains no pork) weighing 2.6 ounces and one vegan sourdough bun weighing 2.5 ounces. The buns contain gluten and wheat. Both wiener and bun are cooked with soybean oil (which contains soy).
12. If you are one of the lucky six, you will need to check in at Dat Dog 5030 Freret no later than 4pm on Friday, July 4th and provide ID that proves you are over 18 years old. The hot dog eating contest will begin at 5pm.
